From a mile away! Just kidding. Heck for $3 I might have bought it. These are usually referred to as Barber dimes and 1902 is a better date. The $3 asking price was right in line with what it's worth.

Condition is Good-4, and current value is around $3.50. As bherring said, it is a bit better date.

1902 is a common date for a Barber dime, one of the highest mintages. Condition is AG3 in my book. Yes, $3 was a bit too much, as it is worth melt value of around $1.75, but consider it a good lesson for $1.

Remember it's the survival rate not the original mintage that's important. The 1902 Barber has an estimated 99.8% attrition rate with only 35,000 total pieces existing today. That is why it not priced as a common date and is instead regarded as a "better date".

Last month's Greysheet does not price it as a common date; 1902 is $3.00 vs. $1.70 for commons in G04. The latest issue of Coins Magazine lists a 1902 Barber at $4.00 in G04 and $2.50 for common dates.
The point I was trying to make is that you can't look at original mintage as meaningful. It's survival that counts.
In the condition the OP's coin is in, most people would call it a melt value coin though.

This is a slightly better date and I would grade it AG-3+. In this condition however, it is worth pretty much melt value but for 3 bucks it was worth a shot :)

G-4. Barely. Net AG-3 + because of the rim nick. $3 isn't a huge loss, probably worth $1.50 to $2 to me
