Hi!
I found this 1990 LMC which seems to have somewhat of an inner circle which distorts some of the coin's features particularly on the reverse side (which is a bit convex). Some of the letters are doubled, you can see trails extending towards the rim,and what I find more puzzling is the 'extra metal' (sorry, don't know the technical name) on the outer side of the first three columns. There is also a diebreak between AM.
Does anyone know how this came about?
Thanks!

This is due to die wear. That's what die wear looks like on zinc cents.

Thank you, Mr Daughtrey.
So, does the die wear explain the 'extra metal' on the first three columns?

It is hard to tell from the images, but the pattern indicates so. It is not actually "extra metal" - it is actually grooves in the die caused by the wear that allows metal on the planchet to flow farther upward than normal in the strike.

Thanks, Mr Daughtrey, it's always great to learn from the pros.
