I'm beginning a search of Lincoln accumulated cents and was just wondering what " Close AM" cent dates and what " Wide AM" cent dates I should be looking for? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks for all replies.

Thanks Conder! I can now begin the search. Do the Wide AM dates go all the way to 2010 or are they limited to like the '90's dates?

They used the same basic design from 1993-2008 inclusively. 2009 and 2010 cents do not have memorial reverses.

Coppercoins, oops, you're right, I forgot about the design change. Thanks.

At the moment only 1998 - 2000 Wide AM cents are known and MAYBE one 1996 but the coin is no longer available for confirmation. But there is no reason why they couldn't exist for any or all the years from 1993 to 2008. What caused them was a reverse die that was intended to be used to strike proof coins was accidentally used for business strike production instead. They also accidentally used business strike design reverse dies to strike proof coins too. Watch for Close AM cents on proof cents in 1994 to 2008. So far I think these are only reported for 1998 and 99 as well, but they COULD exist on other years as well.

I'm 99% sure I've found a '92-D Lincoln Cent with a '93 ( Close AM) reverse. What are the recommended steps to take from here to get the maximum value?

He's a photo I've made of a secondary marker between Close AM and Wide AM.

Correct! No perceivable serif on the G, and the FG is a little further away than usual.
Rest in Peace

Thanks for the welcome, Numismo! Ironically, my camera died a couple weeks ago, and the camera on my phone barely has the resolution for me to recognize my wife. In hopes of establishing a measure of credibility, let me say that I have looked at pennies for these types of errors since news of the 2000 proof reverse ( Wide AM) broke and have found two of those 2000 proof reverse specimens in that time. (To my wife's chagrin, I probably see 1500 pennies a month.) This is the first of any other type of the "wrong reverse" I have encountered. In the meantime, assuming the coin is genuine (I'd gauge it at probably AU-50), I suppose I need to send it in to be certified. Are PCGS and NGC the preferred services? I have no experience with grading services and would appreciate any advice in this area. Or would another course of action be recommended? Thanks!

Louse, u'm sorry, Plantlouse :)
First thing to do is to verify that you have an actual close
a.m. You can either do it on your own or have a few experienced
coin variety people do that. Or you can get some pics. of the coin.
I'm sure someone you know has a dig. camera you can borrow or they can
do the shots for you. Then post on here and you will get a verification.
Then after you verify it you can choose one of the top 3 grading services. Anacs, ngc, pcgs. With anacs you do not have to belong to
any org. etc. and can send it in on your own. I was lucky enough to have seen in person the first 92-P close a.m. that was ever found. Saw it the day it was brought in to a local coin dealer and then after the slab. On a find like that you could get a freebie from anyone of the top 3 TPG's at the time as far as a slab etc. They want the hoop-la so they do a rare find for free. As far as the 92-D cam check out ea. TPG's population reports. If there is one (i am not sure on the 92-D) that has not done one yet, give them a call and try to set up a deal for the cert./slab. Just an idea !

No problem on the name, there, Indian1; I brought it on myself. Suffice it to say, it goes back to the days of my early youth when my older brother taunted me. Two things on that: today he and I get along famously and I find that--astonishingly--very few web sites have that user name as an active one, so it usually goes through without a hitch. Now, back to business. I have found an old camera--let's see if I can get some kind of a 3rd grade image out of it. If I do, what do I do to attach that image? I don't see an obvious button to click on. (Forgive me. I'm brand new here and haven't had the chance to read the bylaws yet.)
