For the last few years, I've been collecting topical world coins for fun (e.g., Rabbits, Tractors & other stuff). There are many 20th century silver world coins which were made just as NCLT for collectors. Some of these coins are quite beautifully designed & were minted in such great numbers that they are priced near melt value on the secondary market. Silver has spiked in price this year & now my "2010" World Coin catalog has many coins listed for less than current melt value. Is there some way to determine what the value of a common silver coin should be? Like, spot + x%? Or just silver spot value? Also curious to know how Krause is going to keep their catalogs current if silver keeps on rising. Your thoughts? ~ JFK ~

I think Krause might eventually nominate the value of common silver coins as being 'spot plus a percentage' depending on the condition. I have seen this type pricing in other catalogues for years.

Hey sel_69I. Thanks for your input. I didn't know this was already being done in other catalogs. Interesting! I'm still a newby with collecting world coins.

Scissel,
In advance excuse my English, I am French.
I worked last year with Krause catalog (2001-Date) for update coins for some countries prices because I saw many errors in their catalog.
This year I was surprised to see that they corrected some mistakes but not all corrections I sent.
I noted that some prices are still wrong, over priced for certain coins and under priced for others. I don't know why.
For some prices they repeat same prices of the year before without taking any count of the evolution of the market price.
Little example for Liberia Tiffany Art 2004 KM#611 Krause value $125 , I said to Krause catalog that this value was completely wrong (a year ago value was $800 !). They have not made the correction.
Few days ago this coin was sold $1,800 !
For the modern commemorative coins this book is just a help but real price is what the buyer accept to pay for a coin.

Spica - It's rewarding to be able to contribute to a catalog! Even though they did not take your advice on all your ideas. The catalogers must use several different sources & probably have to deal with conflicting opinions on coin values. I can see how it must be difficult to set catalog prices.

I think the rise in silver prices will add greatly to the amount of data entries they need to update.
