Do you have a link to the completed auction? I'd look it over and check the seller's return policy before leaving negative feedback. Also, reread the description carefully to see if there is anything that says something to the affect of "item sold As Is." Contact the seller and let them know about the mistake and ask if they'll issue a refund. The seller is at fault and misrepresented the item, if he's unwilling to offer a refund, you can make a claim with ebay.

If you don't return the coin I'd give him a positive. Returning the coin is basis for a positive so if you aren't willing to I wouldn't neg him.

Can't get hold of him nor does he return my emails. I'm sending a letter to ebay in Santa Clara about him or her. I'm keeping the coin as a reminder of my stupidity. It's in a frame over my computer with the sellers ID. I ought to scan it post it to this thread.

if I sold a coin on ebay it would be in a 2by2 and wrapped 1 layer bubble wrap and then put in a Altoids tin wrapped in more bubble rap and then boxed it would cost a little more but would be worth it. I would complain to ebay.

If they specified that they accept returns, I would have kept it exactly as it was when it arrived and immediately sent it back. After unpacking and treating with acetone however, I'd say you've gone through enough trouble and should just hang onto it...

First Class Mail works fine for most coins if you know how to package it properly. I enclose a 2x2 in a corrugated cardboard self-sealing coin mailer. I can fit three coins in a standard envelope and four in a business envelope. The coin mailer renders the envelope rigid so the postmark cannot be machined. Since the envelope is nonmachinable, the First Class rate is subject to a 20 cent surcharge for total postage of 64 cents for one ounce. I have mailed several hundred coins this way without a single casualty.

I've had that happen to me twice. Both times it was under $10 and I just chocked it up to stupidity and moved on. Does suck though, and gives you a bit of a shock when you open up the envelope!

Ditto Maineman, lack of communication when you have a problem is the sign of a bad seller. It is your duty to warn others.

A proper shipping method doesn't take much time or money, and my buyers have never received a damaged coin. Taping a coin to a card suggests to me the seller isn't a collector.

Prestoncg has finally emailed me, twice. The first with expletives describing my personality or family mating practices and where to place the coin, because I told him: "Learn how to ship coins or get out of the business!" and the second, just now, referring to me as "Sir" and to return the coin and he'd make it right.

Wow, am I that good or did one of you guys, or gals, get involved? Come on, don't be shy...you can tell me. OK, should I return the thing? I don't know the ins and outs of ebay. I want to make sure my neutral rating and my comments remain on his record.

I just mailed them my first complaint about pay pal and the issuing bank (some may be involved with the Card Security Program). Don't know how this will be received by ebay because I referred the whole mater to my states, attorney generals, consumer protection commission office to get them to cease and desist a certain practice. Any advice is appreciated.
