I have no idea to which thread this belongs. I just received a "reputed" uncirculated Ike from an ebay seller, (a 72 type 2) that was taped, THAT'S RIGHT TAPED, to a piece of paper as a method of securing the coin for shipment; you could actually see the impression of the coin on the exterior of the envelope. I immediately treated the coin with acetone to remove the residue. I say it's now an AU50 with a "Dipped" detail. Newbies...don't ever use scotch tape on coins. I'm only keeping this because it was only 12 bucks and can be used an example of how not to ship a coin!! These are just scans because the coin doesn't deserve a decent photo now. What would yo do? At least I got all the tape junk of the obverse. My apologies if this is the wrong thread.

That's supposed to be a 72 Type 2? I'd send it back because it's a 72D!
I've had a dozen eBayers do the same thing or worse like loose in a padded envelope or stapled in a plastic baggie. Unless the auction images show the coin in a slab or flip they show up poorly shipped about 75% of the time.

Sorry to hear this. I would give a low score on shipping to the seller. Guys like that should not sell coins.

When I ship single coins I make sure I put the 2x2 inside a Semi-Pro sports card top-load protector. For me...a 2x2 is just not enough protection. The top-load protector will protect against any possible punctures during shipping that could scratch through the 2x2. There is no significant weight increase. Just extra protection for the buyer to ensure safe shipment.

I know nothing about Ikes or acetone, but that looks nowhere near "uncirculated". Peter in Oz

Send it back and let him know what he did wrong, maybe he knows nothing about coins.I remember one guy that had a 1913-s Barber dime that was toned with a bad picture. When I asked to make sure it was 13-s, he replied yes and that he cleaned it to be sure.Needless to say, I did not bid....but I let him know what he did wrong...personally I don't give bad feedback for ignorance as long as they take the return.

I was so upset over the scotch tape I never noticed the mint mark. Guess I get to give him an unsat instead of a neutral.

I won a collection recently that was in a glass frame. It was shipped in a padded envelope.
Needless to say I was delivered an envelope full of broken glass and coins in a USPS protective bag.

Friend of mine got a 70d Kennedy shipped loose in a regular envelope. Needless to say when it arrived the coin had ripped out the end of the envelope and was gone. They did offer to give him half of his money back. I guess they figured the envelope was worth the other half.

I like to give the seller a chance to right the wrong before posting negative responses, and I would expect the same from those that I may have wronged.

I do not have alot of coin or ebay experience, but I have already figured out you have to be extremely careful when dealing with guys on ebay. I don't care if they have 10000 great feedbacks. Alot of scams out there. I son't know if O would spend more than $50 bucks a pop on there. At least the downside is only $50.

It looks to me like the coin has a rounded scratch coming off the date (from a coin rolling machine?), plus that is not a Type 2. Send it back for a refund and give the seller a chance to make it right.
