Is the value of a proof set worth less if the box is damegaed? If the case is damaged? If the coins are loose and not in the case? Or is the price of the proof coin always the factor? I see sets on ebay and alot of them have damaged boxes and cracked cases. Is this agood way to buy the damaged sets for the coins and then create nickel proof sets and quarter proof sets, etc. at a cheaper price?

Well if they are loose in the case I'd stay away. But just cracked case or damaged box as long as the coins look good I personally would buy em

I am not seeing loose coins, it was just to round out the question. I guess I mean to ask can the parts be worth more than the whole?

Depends on the person. I see proof Lincolns for example for 3.95 to 6.95 plus shipping. I can buy depending on the year the whole proof set for 8-17.00 plus shipping for the whole set. Well like myself I need 2 of the coins out of that set (will be more I'm sure as I'm thinking if I'm buy proofs might as well do them all) It;s actually cheaper for me to buy the set break it up. Sell or Trade what I don't need to get stuff that I do.

Exactly what I thought. I see the individual coins go for more than the whole especially when you add in the shipping. I was wondering how to get a proof set of, let's say nickels. I could buy the set, buy the nickels, or buy the proof set, remove nickels, sell the rest. I am not saying I will or could affor this but it was an idea.

Individual coins when added all up will sell for a premium over the whole set.

I would have thought it was the other way around. I would think someone would pay a premium for every Jefferspn nickel proof as a set than to go out and get them all. Cool. Thanks for the input/
