Does anyone have any clue about whatever the heck happened to make this nickel look so totally bloated/swollen and weird surfaced like this?

Well, whatever happened, beavers belly, dryer, sat in liquid corrosive, it's definately found a home with my odd-balls and damaged collection. The letters and numbers look so bloated. Arthritic inflammation perhaps?
