Got some laundry quarters last week - 1970-S in one of the rolls. Nice to find something in quarters for once.

I have been buying bags of quarters from a local bank with a coin counter.
The teller explained to me that a family that lost a relative recently has been dumping massive amounts of change. It seems they are working with a coin shop and they are searching for the silver and dumping the rest at this bank
The first bag I found a silver quarter thought great find, the second bag I found 2 silver quarters, the third bag blank, then last night I picked up the 4th bag 4 silver quarters and 20 S proof quarters from 1968-1990.
However all the quarters have a brownish stain on them. Can anyone tell me what can cause this stain and if I should try to clean them.
Thanks

Had a cool find today! Went to the bank and got someone's partial State Quarter collection! I opened up one roll that had black marks on the outside and it turned out to be a whole roll of Colorado! I looked at the other rolls that were marked and have full rolls of CA, ME, MD, MI, MN, OK, and FL! Most of the coins appear to be high AU/low BU quality! They may not all be keepers, but pretty neat to find them that way!

My kids and I have been actively quarter roll hunting for about a month now. In the first roll I opened, I found a 1959-D quarter! So far, my daughter has a complete 1965-2008 set and is only missing two of the US territory quarters. My son is only missing three territory quarters and a 1971. Lately, I've been buying $100 of quarters at a time. Last week, I got all clear shrink wrapped rolls, which the teller said have come from the vault. Out of those 10 rolls, we had about 30 ATB Quarters, which is a record, a Guam-P, a USVI-P and a Northern Marianas. I suspect those were unsearched rolls. Its been rare to find the territory quarters and that many ATB Quarters at one time.

Wow! Some really nice finds on this thread. I bought a roll of shrink wrapped quarters from the grocery store, but it was all clad coins. However, there were some ATB's and nice older dates in there. Should I keep them?
