I have a gold 1964 Innsbruck coin that has the Olympic Rings on one side and a scene of the town on the opposite side. The only info I can find is that Martha Coufal designed the winners medals (same picture)
Can anyone tell me what I have - it has no monetary value printed on it
Thanks
PS: The coin is slightly smaller than a Canadian nickel. I have photos that I have attached finally!

This looks like a commemmorative medal for the 1964 Winter Olympics. It is not a coin.

You have one of two designs of the commemorative medal from 1964. Not to be confused with the winners medals or participation medals. This medal was produced in 3 sizes: 40mm (35.2g), 26mm (10.5g) and 20mm (4.5g). Yours is the smallest of these.

Wow that is great information - how did you find this out? I have been searching the internet for days with all sorts of "key words" and - nothing. Do you have a source for this information?

Hi
I am a collector of olympic medals and recognized this at once, there are several good reference books which also include some commemorative coins as well. This medal is well described in Victor Gadoury's "Olympic Medals and Coins".

I saw the opportunity, couldn't resist: someone with a knowledge of Olympic Medals!! Help!

I've gotten hold of an attractive commemorative piece for the Austrian Olympic Committee, but it's not got any of the kinds of indications one usually finds. It's clearly not an Austrian Mint issue, b/c there's no date nor denomination; there's no indication that it was made at the time of any particular Games. It's got prooflike surfaces, purple toning on the obverse and mirror white on the reverse. The reverse depicts nine winter sports around a snowflake overlayed with the eagle, olympic rings, and OOC (Osterreichisches Olympisches Comite).

Do you have any info about this piece? Composition? (It has "1000" marked above the eagle/snowflake reverse) Date of issue? Value?

Thanks in advance!

BTW, it's 32 mm across. If that makes a difference!

Hi,

This is an Austrian Olympic Committee Presentation Medal. Silver, listed as 40mm, (maybe yours is a smaller version) struck by Austrian State Mint. Austrian NOC logo. Rev. Logo on snowflake surrounded by 9 different winter sports. Worth around $60 to $100

This is an old thread, but thought it might be worth a try to get some info. We have 9 gold Innsbruck Olympic commemorative medals in the 26mm size. We were offered $5000 USD for the gold value, but were wondering if they value beyond just the scrap value?
