I have a 1877 U.S. Trade dollar with a mint mark of CC, I have never had it graded or appraised, but it appears to be in good condition. I have someone that wants to trade me for it; she is offering me a 2010 PCGS A.S.E. MS70 25th ann. Silver Eagle dollar and $100 cash. Is that a good deal? I know that Trade dollars are valuable but I really love that coin she is offering me; it is quite beautiful. If anybody could give me a word-of-wise, that would be great.

uhh first thing I would ask you to do is post pictures on here for us. Trade dollars are very highly counterfeited so pictures and weight if possible will help us determine if yours is real or not. The only way this is a good deal for you is if this is a fake Trade dollar, if its real then its worth a whole lot more than that ASE she is offering. ASE can be had for about 20-30 bucks and the only thing it has for it is the grade and even that wouldn't bring the price up to 500.00 which that plus the 100.00 she offered would bring the price of the 1877-CC to 600.00 which is what I have seen EF Trade dollars of this date sell for

Any coin minted at CC (Carson City) is worth a decent amount. Especially a Trade dollar minted there. a quick look at a price guide shows values @ given grades. http://numismedia.com/fmv/prices/tr...icesgd.shtmlIf can post pictures we can help you nail down a grade and an appropriate price. What ever you do, dont touch the face of the coin with your bare hands, do not attempt to clean it, and hold on to it until you are sure of what you have. These coins, if authentic are not hard to sell, you will have no trouble finding a buyer. This is all assuming your coin is authentic, no counterfeit. (im hoping for authentic)

The offer is about $175 total for a 1877-CC Trade dollar that's worth $200 minimum in any condition. I wouldn't do it. 2010 PCGS MS70 ASE 25th ann. Silver Eagle's can be purchased for $70 on ebay. Have your Trade dollar authenticated and find out what's it's worth before potentially trading it for 1/4 of it's value.

Alright here are some pics. My dad measured it with a hanging scale and it read about 22 grams. Thanks for the help.

I'd have to say it's fake. The rims and stars just don't look right.

to CCF A Trade dollars should weigh in the area of 27.22 grams & the rev. of yours is all wrong for that year. I would have to say that it is counterfeit. You should get a Red Book which will help with weight/values/discriptions. Sorry for the bad news.

I'm going with counterfeit as well. Everything about the coin doesn't look right and from what you say it is underweight too.

Well, that's a little disappointing. I have many more coins so this is just another bump in the road. So is this coin tradable? I don't see who would want a fake coin, but I have seen them for sale.

I have to agree with the fake verdict, I made a picture to show just a couple things I noticed, they are marked on your picture below. then look at the picture of an original and look at the differences between the two. The arrows I made a line from the tip of the arrows and look where it lines up on your coin and then look how the numbers below on the original line up. The box I drew on yours shows the ends of the arrow shaft feathers, look at the original and see the differences between yours and one known to be real and notice the differences between the two. This is just a couple things but should be enough to conclude your coin is fake

Well thank all you guys for your help. I actually have someone that wants to trade me a 2010 PCGS A.S.E. MS70 25th ann. label & $100 cash, but I'm assuming that deal is shot, if its fake.

like I told you in my first post when you asked about the trade, it would have been a horrible deal for you if it were real, it would be a horrible deal for her now. Fake Trade dollars are 1-2 dollars all over China and are a dime a dozen here also. I would definitely tell the person the coin is fake

Where did you get this coin? Red Chinese fakes are pouring into the U.S.

My grandpa gave it to me, so I'm not sure where he got it; he does live in northern Cali though. And I will be sure to let the person know. Thank you guys for all your help!
