Hi Everyone,
Sure hope I am in the right place . I just purchased this set and know it is of British backing , but can't seem to find anything on the web about it. Some direction would be appreciated. It is called 1987 Host of Angeles.

Thank you very much,

Dave

All I could find on the web is an ebay listing titled "1987 Isle of Man Host of Angeles Gold Coin Proof Set" that sold for US $1,262.77. I personally no nothing about this set and will leave it to others at this forum to tell you more.

Eaglenest, the Isle of Man is a self-governing dependency,so its coins are listed separately.Could you please post some photos of the coins? From what I can guess,it is a set of bullion medal-coins that was struck at the Pobjoy Mint (notorious for their Gibraltarian & Manx medal-coin issues, especially 1 Crown pieces,& 1/5 Crown gold pieces, among others.),whose 'PM' mintmark can be found below the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverses. These pieces may have die letters (2 letters on the reverse) located somewhere in the coins' designs. You will need a magnifying glass to see them.

Thanks Again Aidan.
When you said self governing would that mean that they were representitive of leagal tender at one time? And or what country , or do you imply the Brirtish Commonwealth collectivly?
I am trying to compare their use as similar to the American Eagle series.

I know the value of the gold content made it worth the purchase. My questions would be: #1 Would they have any collector value?
#2 Their being a proof set add to that value?

There does not seem to be any information on line about these. It would be good to know if they might be in a sort of Red Book.

The leed about Pobjoy was a big help. It answered one of my questions.

Isle of Man
A dependency of the British Crown since 1765, the Isle of Man, situated in the Irish Sea, midway between England, Scotland and Ireland has the oldest parliament in the world in continuous existence (since 979) and was the first country anywhere to give women the vote (in 1881). It is an Independent State with a long history, distinctive language and culture, and many proud traditions. Manx coinage was used intermittently from the Middle Ages onwards and regularly from 1679 to 1841. It was revived again in the 1960s and both circulating coins and collectors versions are now issued.

Eaglenest, these are listed in Krause. If you haven't got one of those, you can buy one here; https://www.amazon.com or wait until http://numismaster.com comes online. The latter will be Krause's official website.
