And was it awesome! I'm actually going back tomorrow... I'll get to that in a second. So in short, I didn't feel overwhelmed, pressured or anything bad! I ended up spending about $70 (I think I might have over paid by $5-$7) filling many blank spots in my LWC Dansco. I saw coins that I have never seen before, I learned about the Medal Collectors of America (I'm fascinated by some of these things!), and finally - I got my wife into collecting with me! So tomorrow I'm going back to trade in some silver since it has gone up about $10 from the time I purchased it, and that was my selling point. Hopefully I can even get some added value for trade in from vendors. Just wanted to throw this out there since I originally posted questions about going to my first one!

Excellent I can feel your joy and excitement from here. That Whitman show is a BIG one ...... great for you that you managed to keep your head screwed on and spending priorities in order. Looking forward to a report from your follow-on visit. David

Most excellent! I've been to many and it still takes me an hour and a cup of coffee to calm down before I go back in to buy. Just something about all those shinny things.

lukkyseven: Silver is quite a bit higher than the long term trend line currently, so converting your silver scrap into things numismatic in your area of interest will give you much better long term satisfaction.
Ten years ago I cashed some silver to buy shock absorbers for my car. I no longer have the car or the silver. If you buy into numismatic items, I'll bet you that you will still have them in ten year's time!

Lots of fun, aren't they? You do realize a mistake you made though, don't you? Getting your wife into coins means there is now one more coin collector out there. The more people that collect coins, the higher the prices of all coins and the ones you want will now be higher also. And just what are you going to do or say when she acquires better coins than yours? See what you started.

What do you think turned your wife? I going to my first on the 13th and intend on taking my wife. I don't care if she collects or not, I just want her to see the "pro" side of it all and not just think it's a "boy's toys" thing (Which it is but you know what I mean :)

Getting my wife into it was easy! Well it was pure luck actually. We found Disney Dollars and she was all about it. She used to collect the figurine's and these were right up here alley. Day 2 was where it was at. I traded in silver at one booth and went a few down and bought about $100 worth of Jefferson nickels. I got all but 5 of the silver War Nickels in BU shape. I mean these bad boys are sharp! I ended up buying some toned one's from this guy also at about $3 a pop. I deffinately made out at that stand! Stand #2 - the Disney Dollar. I thought I was going to end up feeling really stupid here, but we sat and talked to the guy for well over an hour. He has a book that we purchased with all the information you could ever dream of in it. We ended up spending $200 at his stand. However, we bought all ungraded notes (which for her purposes are fine) and he told us that if we ever want to upgrade to the PCGS graded ones that he'd take full trade in on purchase price from his bills. He comes to Baltimore three times a year and he'll be seeing us at least 2 of those times. Then finally, after all was said and done, he took us to the Whitman supply area and let us load up on there supplies and they gave us dealer price! I saved about $50 alone right there. Over all, what a show! *** Staff Edit *** but I spotted them after about 10 seconds of them talking. I've learned a ton and I'm already looking to start saving money for the show in March! I hope you guys have as much luck as I did!

My wife still collects them (the Classics Collection and the Armani) and has quite a few of them. One of her cousins is into the pins; she probably has more pins than I have coins. I just remembered that we still have some Disney Dollars that need to be spent. Hmmm... Glad to hear you had a great time!

My wife could not care less about coins. I neutralised any opposition from her before we married. I sold my then current collection, and that was the down payment on our house. We would not have had a roof over our heads without the sale of that collection. She was thankful for that. I have spent 33 happy years re building a new collection, which is more valuable than the first.
By the way, she has just handed me a cup of tea, while I am typing this, bless her!

Glad to hear that you had a lot of fun and made at least one convert(your wife) and scored some nice stuff for your collection to boot. Quote: By the way, she has just handed me a cup of tea, while I am typing this, bless her!
Black Oolong or a nice cup of Earl Grey I would hope.

I personally like Darjeeling, but I have yet to try Oolong.
Sipping a cup of Earl Grey at work this morning though!
