...and (part-time) dealer.
And, I mean that quite seriously.
I've been fairly active on boards like this one for the past couple of years now. I just started on this one a few weeks ago.
There are those cynics that say that most of the people on them are idiots and have no idea what they're talking about. Largely I know how to wind my way through that type of stuff, though.
As a collector, looking for problem-free, original, eye-appealing coins is not necessarily an automatic trait to gain. These boards have strongly affected (in a positive way) my ability to grade and properly size-up a given coin. This help has gone hand-in-hand with help from experts that have helped me in person with various coins which basically affirms everything I've learned over the past couple of years.
I've been collecting for over 30 years! And, only now do I feel I'm really hitting my stride as an advanced collector.
As a part-time dealer, I've learned a lot of what-to-do's and what-not-to-do's from various people with various experiences. It has made my experience with dealing with coins and those of my customers much more pleasant, not to mention "realistic".
Keep up the good work. For those of you who don't consider yourselves "advanced". Pay attention to these boards, they really can help.
From time-to-time I'll post some of my recent buys. Of course, I'll do that do brag a bit...who doesn't do that? But, also I do it to solicit comments, learn a bit more, confirm what I hope I've already learned, and to show others what some (and myself) consider to be original, eye-appealing material.
THANKS!
Bruce

Bruce: I too am a long time collector but, just recently got back into collecting on a regular basis. I let my fingers do the walking through the WEB and found this forum and an soooooooooo glad that I did. I've looked at other forums and was not impressed AT ALL! We all like to share our collections and by doing so give others ideas on what they would like to find. Yes, there's an element of bragging - that's part of it and we all know it and think it's pretty cool to do so! As for "coin forums" and the thoughts about folks being "idiots" well, that strikes me as "takes one to know one"! lol I'm glad that you're on our forum and enjoy sharing as much as the rest of us. Sorry that I missed you at the ANA! I signed up with the Denver Coin Club and will be attending some meetings upon my final return to my beloved Colorado! The backdrop to the DCC booth was a little distracting though!!! Thanks for your comments. I love it when folks enjoy my new family!

I was actually working at the DCC booth on Thursday and Friday afternoons. When did you sign up...maybe you did see me?
I'll be at the next DCC meeting next week. Just ask for Bruce; just about everyone there should know who I am.

Bruce: I was there on Saturday...a very nice lady helped me. Apparently there was someone at the Convention that was paying the dues for anyone that signed up while at the Convention. I wish I knew who that person was - I thought that was a very nice gesture. He/She probably wants to stay anonymous though. I WISH I could be at the next meeting. We have to get our behinds out of AZ first. Probably within the next 2-3 months or sooner. I lived in Englewood for a while so I know exactly where the meetings are held. I'll be there with bells on! You'll know me when you see me - I'll be the one with her mouth flapping!

Bruce, thank you for the post. It is just for those reasons that I wanted CC to become a reality. I'm so glad that you are here. You have had a lot of knowledge to share in addition to what you've learned and are a real asset to our community. Thanks so much for joining us!

Man, I love it here. I can spend hours just reading the different posts, and I seem to increase my knowledge just a little with each one - well, almost all of them. And, it seems, with any question you might ask, someone here in this forum knows the answer, or can direct you to a site that does. I think that's pretty spiffy? I'm gonna stick around for a long time.

I completely agree as well. Especially being someone who doesn't know anyone else who collects, it's great to be able to come here and see all this information and be around other people who enjoy coins as much as I do.
