I stopped by the local coin shop yesterday on my way to work to pick up a 1994 ASE (NGC MS69).

When I asked him how much, he looked at the ceiling mumbling to himself doing math in his head to calculate the new silver prices.

Is this unusual? If it were just bullion, I would understand. But, at what point does numismatic value finally exceed the need to calculate spot into the price?

Not unusual at all, it is a side effect of silver being at $26 yesterday and the commonness of MS69 Eagles. Even that lofty grade does not really lend much of a premium over spot, an Eagle is essentially bullion unless it grades MS70.

Yeah, it wouldn't seem unusual until you start getting into the high end stuff.....I'm thinking bullion price plus numismatic premium is fair.

OK, thanks.

I guess I never really thought about it before.
