Going to another coin/collectible show Sunday. I will see if traffic is better and coin selection improves.
Check out dealers to see if they pay attention to customers and not one another.

The hottest thing going on at my local coin shop is the buying and selling of silver.
I would be curious what is going on with silver at the shows.

Just got back from a show today in central TX, neither to buy or sell, really, just to check things out. Very busy in the morning (I'd go so far as to say it was packed), but seemed to have pretty well cleared out by early afternoon. No real idea what people were buying (only witnessed a couple smallish sales), but judging by where people were sitting/browsing, seems like there was an awful lot of interest in foreign coins, both modern and ancient. Of maybe 20ish dealers, there was one dedicated ancient dealer, one foreign + ancient, and three others with considerable foreign inventory that I remember, and all seemed to have no lack of folks at least looking.

Quite a good selection there of US coins too, which was a pleasant surprise to me, given the poor impression I've gotten of local dealers.

I did not see a whole lot of dealers focusing on bullion, and those that were did not seem to have more customers/browsers than any other.

We have coin shows on the 7th and every Sunday after that in November.
As a general rule I've found prices at these shows are much better than larger coin shows. These are usually from 40 dealers to about 100. No parking fees, no admittance fees, usually free copies of coin magazines if you get there early. Many dealers are the same ones at each show so you get to know them. Some will hunt for certain coins for you and for decent prices once they get to know you.
If you go to shows many times, attempt to get to know the dealers. Talk to them about anything so they get to know you. You do not have to buy something from them all the time, just let them know who you are. Don't worry about talking to dealers. If a dealer doesn't want to talk to you, they'll let you know. Actually I've found some are difficult to get away from if you are a decent conversationalist.
