to a member in Greece. He has since emailed me stating he received the coin :-) My question is this. Has anyone had a bad experience sending coins overseas? If so, what were the Countries? I will say that I've had trouble with Italy on a non-coin collectible then, there are Countries I just won't send anything to. swcoin.ecrater.com

I will be interested to see the responses to your question. I have made the decision to avoid all the hassle, and have a notice posted right on the front page of my website stating that I sell only to US customers. The regulations (customs forms and such) are complex, and there is little you can do if a deal goes bad.

During the last couple of months, I have received approximately 25 shipments of coins by mail from the USA and Canada without any problems (Knock on wood, knock on wood). Delivery took between 5 and 14 days.

All,
I have no problems with receiving parcels with coins in the UK from members from the US or Canada. I do find it funny that parcels from Canada take longer to arrive then those from the US.
How long ago did you send the coin(s)?
I never sent anything to Greece...but Greece has had various strikes over the past few months, as recent spate of bombs sent to the post, so stuff like that could be why the parcel has not arrived.
Now, countries where I can't even sent a birthday card or Christmas card to are Namibia or South Africa.
Hope that the coin(s) do arrive.

I am the receiver of the coin and I can say that the coin posted on 28 October and received by me on 5Th November. That's quite quick postage. Most part of my collection come from U.S.A mainly because of the exchange rate US$ to Euro.American sellers are in a 99% honest and on 500 parcels I can remember only one or two problems.I sell also coins to Americans, send to NGC in Sarasota and never have problem because I always post by registered letter on high value items.I track on coins on ebay and when seller quote that he don't sell internationally they have about 20-30% loss on the same coins. It's quite frustrating when find a coin with a buy it now price which is key to your collection and find that the seller does not post to Europe.

I've been on the receiving end of some coins from Greece. Got them but it was like 2 weeks. I've also made several transactions with individuals in Israel and that can be very slow, the last one took 32 days. But they got here! But I had a transaction with GB and it got here in 2 days. go figure.

I have ordered coins from Greece, Israel, Italy, Portugal, Latvia, U.K., Spain, Lithuania, Poland, Slovenia and Slovakia. Never had a problem with any arriving. Have only shipped to U.K. , Canada and Australia, but everything I've sent has arrived safely. On the other hand, three packages mailed in the U.S. to me in the last two years have arrived empty.

I send hundreds of packages out a year all over the world. India is the only country I will not send to unless its signature confirmation and insured. Which makes it prohibitively expensive. I have lost packages to these countries this year.
Poland Turkey Australia
Most of the recipients have been very understanding.
Packages to some countries take months to arrive. Ecuador 2 months after sending Philippines 2 months after sending UK most of the time a few days but one package to almost 3 months to arrive.
Incoming mail is a little bit hit and miss I now tend to get insurance on anything major I buy in the USA, several high value packages have never arrived Claiming on the USPS insurance is a pain but for the most part they do pay up.
Edited for spelling...

Not sure about sending coins to other countries but some years back my Son spent a semester at the University of Krakow in Poland. His group toured from Brussels all the way through Europe to Poland and after that semester ended, same way back. He knows I'm a coin collector but knows nothing about coins. He sent me coins from every country he passed through and some from countries near them. I didn't have the hart to tell him I don't collect foreign coins so I ended up with several boxes of odd, wierd, strange coins from places all over Europe. Never had any lost in the mail. Never had them opened that I knew of either.

Quote: I don't collect foreign coins so I ended up with several boxes of odd, weird, strange coins from places all over Europe. justcarl, I don't know if you have grandkids yet but someday those boxes of foreign coins could be a real treat for them. I've had some friends give me their foreign coins (I only collect those odd little pieces) and there has never been a real big values, the fun of going through and finding coins I don't have is a real pleasure. I thank them profusely. I recently acquired a bunch of foreign coins and it is my hope I can use some of them with the local Boy Scout council to get some boys interested in coin collecting. So there is hope for the oddities someday! And most importantly and I'm sure you know this, your son thought of you while he was on his great adventure. I love it when my kids do stuff like that. It gives me the feeling I did something right

I have received shipments from the Phillippines, Canada, and Portugal with no problem. P.I. and Portugal took about 10 days or so, Canada only a couple days.
I am not to sure about shipping, it has been about 15 years since I shipped anything overseas. The was to the U.K. and took like two weeks I think.
My 8 year old daughter loves the foreign stuff! Anytime we go to a store or show I let her root through their bins and she always gravitates toward the odd shaped coins. LOL She will even pick out damaged U.S. coins! ROFL
I think I have also started her towards understanding silver and why you should invest in it! I wish someone had taught me that when I was young!
