So I read that some people on here like to check their serial numbers in case there was a low print run for that note.

My question: How many notes can be printed for it to be considered low? Does the run basically have to not go all the way to 96000000?

For example I just pulled out of my wallet a $1 series 2006 with serial number L00255923S

When I looked checked the print run they stopped at 32,000,000 Is that considered a low print run?

I wouldn't think so just using it as an example

Unless the print run is significantly low, there isn't much of a premium. Print runs for $1s often are in the hundred millions and even billions per district. It can also depend on the amount of notes printed for the other districts in the same series. The $1 1993 Minneapolis had a print run of 25,600,000 and the other districts had much greater numbers. It says in my guide book that 1993 $1 Minneapolis note is valued around $20 in VF20 and $150 in UNC63 whereas the other districts only have a small premium for uncirculated bills.

Currently collectors consider a run of 6.4 million notes (NON STAR) as a short run when other blocks have a full run of 96 mil.

Using your example IF instead of 32 mil they only printed 6.4 mil then that block (LS) would be considered low.

FWIW, I am keeping track of something off to the side but will not know anything for a few years (10 plus years) IF it would be considered low or not in the long run (too many variables to get into here).

Here is an interesting one a teller saved for me.

It's a 1981 $50 note Philly fed (CA Block). There was only 1.28 Million printed and is the lowest print run of a 50 going back to 60's. Only other note that had a similar run size was Atlanta in 74.

The 69B's which had run sizes ranging from 512K to 1.5 mil have premiums (cannot figure out the diff yet).

I have checked with some folks and have not heard back on the 81. The book I have lists them in the same bucket as the larger runs. Either way, I have decided to hang on to it as I do not know when I will ever run into a LOW print run like this.

Now if this was a $1 OR $5 note it would be selling for $150 and up.
