Hello,

I have an idea what these would grade, but I would like some other opinions. Could I also get an idea of what they are worth? I only have the 2009 Charlton Guide. Thanks

am not sure how you grade...BUT you are welcome to certify all my coins at your levels......
wow.....
for starters, every one of these coins is cleaned and polished....
or, do you really think that NO dust, crud and dirt should be in the scratches and dents?
should these really be sparkling clean?
they are only over 100 years old. Although nice, but not high gade.

Thanks again,

What do you think about the wear on the bottom of the 1888?

Ok, if you want my specific opinion, here it is:
1876 Vf20
1881 F15
1882 F15
1888 F15- bottom may not be wear. could be damage, even mint damage
1901 Vf30
1896 Vf 20

all coins are cleaned. see my previous post. But then, MOST coins of that age have been cleaned.... just think about it.
My opinion is based on Canadian grading, NOT US grading.
Us grading WOULD BE 1-2 GRADES HIGHER ON EACH GRADE. perhaps more.
But US TPG's grade also on eye appeal, which will make a difference.
Usually, if I buy a US slabbed / graded coin, it is discounted by at leaste 1 grade, mot the time more.
recently a seller tried to tell me that his coin is MS66... it is graded he said...... yeah.... graded by Centsles who is known to be a crooked basement slabber who only grades his own coins and misleads everyone. The coin was NO better than AU55.

another example: A ICG graded MS62 1945 Canada silver dollar. No better than AU55. I bought it and ICCS graded it AU50.
Now, it is NOT always that way, but most often.
enough said... Buyer beware: BUY the coin as is, preferably coin in hand for evaluation.

Thanks hhbkiddo,

I do not own any of these coins. A (U.S) seller had these listed for sale on ebay, most grading AU-Unc but some EF's. I was planning on buying a few, but now that I know they have been cleaned, I am not interested.

Thanks again

Yes, I agree they have been cleaned but it would not reduce the grade. ICCS would grade lets say EF-45 Cleaned.

sad fact is, by the time you pay ICCS or CCCS , you need a huge appreciation in value to come out ahead.. or even break even...
you have to be very factual when buying these, or any other coin, and be REALISTIC....
hands offffdfffffffff..

A little off topic, may be.
I always have problems weeding out cleaned coins! What to look for to check if a coin is cleaned?

Yep these coins were all from ebay. I was planning on buying a few, but changed my mind when I found out they were cleaned.

This is the seller of the coins:

I would also be interested in knowing this. Because that 1888 Large Cent had toning on the back, which I thought would mean original.

check if all the little nooks and scratches and dings etc have any "contamination" in them.
do you really think a 150 year old coin looking really spiffy has not been cleaned at one time or another? a little careful cleaning is ok...BUT obvious cleaning.... NO
Just sea4rch in the archives here and there you will find more info than is good for any of us.....
