Oops...RealPeso's post reminded me that I didn't answer your original question.

The only book I have that isn't in your library: World War II Remembered (subtitled:) history in your hands -- a numismatic study (Schwan/Boling)

It is a massive wealth of information! It covers all coins and paper money used by participants in WWII (Including occupation money). AND...military payment certificates, war bonds, military medals, souvenirs, propaganda, etc. It is really an amazing book. 800+ pages and thousands of photos.

It is a bit dated now (1995-I would LOVE to see an update), so the values given need to be adjusted. But, that is really unimportant when you consider all the info in it. It's not just a boring catalog, either. It has plenty of text that gives the history behind all the items listed.

One bonus, the forward is written by Chester Krause (yes, that Krause). He talks about his experiences as a soldier in WWII, and how his service in Europe didn't stop his coin collecting.

I give it 6 stars and 3 thumbs up!

I thought I had a good working library, but that beats mine by quite some!

My only claim to fame over that would be that I have a complete set of the Roman Imperial Catalogue (RIC). Sear refers to those numbers or BMC (British Museum Catalogue).

I don't have any of the volumes but I know of only three complete sets of Corpus Numorum Romanorum, started by Simonetti and Banti. One of those sets is in the State Library of Western Australia. I found that out by visiting the Australian National Library in Canberra and they said that they did not have a copy would I like to borrow a volume from Perth?

CNR attempts to photograph and describe ALL known types of Roman coins. There are about 16,000 known types.

Certainly an impressive list - mine would be barely a third that size.

Asian - All I've got are Jen for Chinese cash, Goron & Goenka for mediaeval India, and a couple of Chinese specialist works I bought off a club member here: "Early Chinese Coinage" by Wang Yu-Ch'uan (ANS, 1951, all about knives, spades, ant-noses and other primitive proto-coins) and "The Minted Ten-Cash Coins of China" by A.M.T. Woodward (revised edition 1971), a collection of articles written in China prior to 1935.

Mediaeval - very little. Spink and Coincraft for English hammered, the "Coins of Mediaeval Europe" book by Grierson, the Crusader States book, and sections of the general catalogues "Gold Coins of the World" ad "Coins of the British World", both by Friedberg, both 1960's editions. I'd also classify Byzantine coins as "mediaeval" and would put Sear's Byzantine book here, too.

Exonumia - I have several books pertaining to Australian exonumia, which are of little interest or relevance outside this continent. "Australian Historical Medals", "Australian Bread Tokens", "Petrol Rationing in Australia", that sort of thing; many of these were authoured by members of one of the two coin clubs I'm in. Other exonumia books I have include the Coffing "World Notgeld" checklist (which I definitely would NOT recommend if you recommend if a "catalogue" was your desire) and the little "British Tokens" book, 1970 edition, which is just a little bit too lacking in detals on varieties etc for me to heartily endorse.

Islamic - my "big three" are Plant's 'How to Read...', Album's "A Checklist of Islamic Coins" and Album's 1977 re-issue of the 1869 classic, "Marsden's Numismata Orientalia Illustrata" - you can tell it's old because it dates from the time when people thought Latin book titles were cool. The pictures in Marsden help me narrow down approximate age and place, Plant helps me read it, and Album then tells me relative rarity etc..

Modern Europe - I pretty much stick to the Krauses, though I did pick up "Coins of the Swedish Possessions" by Ahlstrom when I saw it at a used book sale - it's my only tri-lingual coin catalogue (Swedish, German and English).

Ancients - I have enough of them for this to be a separate category. The Sear catalogues: four Roman, two Greek and one Greek Imperial/Roman Provincial (that last one I would NOT recommend - it's nowhere near comprehensive enough to be useful). Add on two of the Sayles books - not catalogues but great for general info: IV - Roman Provincial and VI - Non-classical. If you don't get the Sear books, at least get the Sayleses. Another book by Sayles, "Classical Deception", is a good read about fakes. "Monumental Coins" by Tameanko was my first ever ebay purchase, though the 'Architecture theme' doesn't really need the extra popularizaton. And one specialist work, Sydenham's "Coinage of Caesarea in Cappadocia". One book that was far better than I expected was Burnett's "Coinage in the Roman World", which has fascinating chapters on what we know (or don't know) about how money was actually produced, distributed and used in Roman times.

Misc and General - There are two books I'm surprised you don't have, and which I heartily recommend for a generalist. First is the Cribb & Carradice "Coin Atlas" - I have the 1980's edition, I understand that post-USSR-breakup editions have been released. Excellent general info on the coins issued or used within any country's territorial borders, from ancient times to today. Second is Doty's "Encyclopedic Dictionary of Numismatics", a very good reference for all sorts of monetary and numismatic topics, and a must for writing quizzes at coin club meetings!

I also have a few books on local coins: the Macdonald and Renniks calaogues of Australian, as well as the McConnelly predecimal varieties book (which could be a LOT better); the Premier booklet of New Zealand, and "From Cowrie to Kina", containing all things numismatic from Papua New Guinea.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

I just packed and moved all my books and the count was near 100, if I remember correctly. I couldn't believe I had so many, but as the pile grew on the floor as I gathered them from all bookshelves, I just had to count them up. (Doesn't include Red Books or PDF files - the PDFs alone would be pages of data and thank goodness I didn't have to move those as well!)

As I put them away I'll write down the titles and then post them here in a couple days. Nice idea, DCH... there are a few listed so far that I've added to my want list already!
