Check out my latest acquisition. I picked this one up in a box of Craker-Jack LOL... A decent looking 1819 over 18 capped bust half dollar O-103a, R4. The diagnostics for this particular variety are the die-cracks on the reverse. It appears to have been cleaned at some point in the past but it still could be in the VF-20ish range.

Appreciate the look-see :)
Ben

Those are some good looking coins. That's a great series. I think I read that you were trying to get in the Bust Half Nut Club. Have you made it yet? That's quite a feat. Thanks for the look.

She's gorgeous! I'd call it VF20.

Even if it has been cleaned, it was lightly. Besides, I challenge you to find one that hasn't been cleaned at some point in its life.

You know that was on my mind at one point when the criteria was (if I'm not mistaken) 40 examples and 40 die-marraiges, but since they've raised the number to 100 examples and 100 diemarraiges it seems unlikely since I'm only at 76 now with only 69 different die-marraiges.

Now, my point is this -- The average price of a capped bust half dollar is in the $60-$100 range for the average variety and well into $$$ hundreds for the harder to find examples. There only like 450 total examples available. New members as you can figure out are very few indeed based solely on the prohibitive cost associated with meeting membership criteria. I hope one day the requirements will change (be lowered) based upon the extremely high price one must pay for the halves. Many of the older members acquired their coins when one only had to pay much less for each coin. Only time will tell...

Yeah those babies can get pricey. I guess getting the last of any series can be a challenge. Maybe time will be on your side and one day you can achieve that. Good luck and good hunting.

Nice Bust Half.

It was probably dipped sometime ago; the surfaces are too white and too evenly colored to have been soap-and-watered unless it was done harshly. From the photos, it doesn't look like a harsh cleaning. I'm guessing it's market acceptable.

I've purchased a couple of Bust pieces, including a really nice Half, for myself at the ANA show (seen here too).
