On this Singapore Police long service medal does any one know when it was issued and what type of dragon is this representing..Medal is silver and is 35mm.

I have found a medal issued in 1962 but it is a different style of long service medal and has different features.

Dragons are one of the most popular mythological creatures. They descended from various legends, telling tales of fire-breathing, winged creatures. The Eastern dragons of the orient are seen as benevolent creatures who are the protectors of life, fertility, and good fortune which would make me think that this dragon being on the police medal represents:
Courage
Strength
Raw power and force
Wisdom and reason
Protectors of sacred items

Any thoughts appreciated..Thanks

why do you say that that beast is a dragon ?
wouldn't it be more likely to be merlion, which is generally used as a symbol of Singapore ?
from your pics, I can't see any suspension-device, so I infer that this is not intended to be worn, which most Police medals are.
I hope someone can tell us more ...

Peter....Thanks a bunch man..Now I know it is a merlion (had dragon on the mind) I never heard of a merlion and had no reason to check up on it before. This also solves the year as I just found out this merlion emblem was first designed in 1964. The medal does have a suspension device..I just cropped the pictures for a close up.

Thank again..mystery to me is now solved....
