The central area almost looks like a lamination on the V, but the edge damage at 1:00 and 7:00 is clearly damage from long after minting.

It is a lamination but when it is that ugly, it might as well be PMD The little flapper over the C of CENTS is the most obvious sign.

Yes, I agree with you on the damage, but the damage appears to be very old to me. From like around the time it was minted.

Ouch is all I can say. What a shame a coin that old made it so far and then that happenes. Or maybe it happened the day after it hit circulation. Could have been a nice coin. But with well over 22 million minted, there must be lots out there in much better condition.

Well I picked it up cheap. Wasn't a pic of the rev so took the chance.
Will work as a filler untill the better one comes along. I could put it in the Ag/G folder but it looks out of place :)

Lamination and I would say what you are seeing at 1 and 7 o'clock are related to the lamination and not damage.

I think it's lamination. I have a few of those kind of coins that I have pulled out of rolls.
