It's not a coin, but a religious medal. Islamic, by the Arabic/Persian writing, and most likely Shi'ite; the writing looks Persian in style, and Sunni Muslims traditionally interpret the prohibition of "graven images" to extend to medals like this.

I couldn't find this exact medal on zeno.ru, but this one is somewhat similar in style.

Such medals would be given to pilgrims on the Hajj, as a "good luck charm" and as a reminder of their faith.

The Baha'i faith started in Iran, could this be a temple token from there?

I would expect a Baha'i religious medal to have Baha'i symbolism on it. But I don't know, because there aren't any Baha'i medals listed on Zeno.ru. Being a persecuted religion, I doubt its followers would be in the habit of carrying incriminating evidence of "heresy" around with them.

The inscription on the reverse of this medal reads something like "al-razzan hurasa".
