Help?-Chinese-1997-Token,-Coin-Or-????

Complete newbie here. I'd appreciate any help identifying what type of coin (?) this is. I don't believe it is actual currency, but maybe a commeremorative coin or token of some sort.
I simply collect coins for my 5 year old grandson, who is learning about the countries of the world.

Little medals like this are inserted into Chinese New Year mint sets by the Chinese mint. Examples on the forum are 1992 Monkey, 1991 Goat and 1981 Rooster.

I couldn't find a pic of the 1997 mint set medal, but I assume this is it.

When I googled "China 1997 mint set" I found this thing, very similar but has different symbol and differently looking ox.

Thanks, you all. That helps me so much. I had googled many ideas, but didn't know what a mint set was.
It does look just like those examples.
Thank you!
