Yes epop, I too like the old ANACS small holders, but strictly because of their compact size.

A slab will protect the coin from getting scratched up and allot of other things but it will not stop toning, it may help to prolong it but a coin can definitely tone in a slab. I remember a few years ago one guy was buying a bunch of PCGS coins and toning them in a gas chamber and selling them for huge profits. he was a doctor (not a coin doctor but a doctor by profession) and ended up buying all the coins back that he had sold because he didn't need the money, but it took him to get called out on a big coin forum for him to admit what he had been doing. The only way he got caught is he didn't wait long enough to sell the coin on ebay after he bought it on ebay and the two photo's were compared and you could clearly see they had been doctored because there was no way a coin would tone like that in that short amount of time. he said the old rattler slabs were the easiet but all of them can be done if you have the mixture of chemicals right and leave them in the chamber long enough. He made some beautiful rainbow Morgans, some that were the prettiest ones I had ever seen and fooled allot of toned coin collectors with his technique |

It's easy to find them Pandesalapi.Simply go to ebay and look one of the top rated slab seller and look at his coins.They all are like wearing army uniform.He sell them with a big premium.He is a doctor,not a real one,but a coin doctor.If you want I can pm you his nick name. |

I am sure hadleydog has some pictures of some of the coins I am talking about. I looked for some of the pics of the coins he made but I can't even find his name on that other forum so I guess once you get kicked off that other forum, every post you have ever made gets spoofed into outerspace also

Yes, that is very interesting Bryan......I do not care to know who this was, but would like to know if he was threatened with suit by the TPG? Other than hard feelings, did the customers feel that they had legal recourse, and threaten him with it? Either way, the fear of such action may have spurred his actions to refund. If this was at CU, I can certainly see how he may no longer be part of publicly recorded history.....If the trouble was with the TPG, which I might suspect, the TPG may have intervened and confiscated the coins in the holders if that TPG actually had legal recourse, but since he bought the coins back from the customers, maybe his sin was moral rather than legal? I might have mixed feelings about whether what he did was actually legally wrong..........First I've hear of it, and find it quite intriguing. |

Nice my high grade Morgans are an 1884-O and 1898-O Morgan in MS-66 as well as an 1883-CC, 1883-O in MS-65 (w/ premium for toning)

Do any of the TPGs make mention of toning on the slabs? If not, well........

zeewool I have no idea about any of that. I never bought any coins from him and can't seem to find any of his threads nor any threads even mentioning his nick any longer over there
