Hi forum members, I got lucky again tonight on one of my favorite coin shows, the Treasure Hunter. This is what I need help with, I won on a auction a 1994 $10 1/4 oz of .999 bullion gold coin in original sealed holder. Now the coin is the Hole In One golf pic on one side with the Bahama palm trees on the other side. I paid $150 for the coin and only 2,500 were made in this coin. Now, did I get a good bargain as the host said? It's .999 1/4 oz coin and the gold coin was made in South Africa. Is South Africa gold a good gold in 24kt? I need your help on value please ty Coin Hog

hmm it says it has the coat of arms on the reverse, and you say it has a palm tree, so not sure thats the same coin but if it is and if that data is correct and if it said it was .9999 pure then it is 24k. gold. And at todays market it should be worth about $155.45 USD

Bryan: Aren't the Canadian ML's and the South African Kruggerands the most sought after "gold" coins due to their .9999 content? Just a question.
I agree that $150 was an ok price for a 1/4 oz with perhaps a little more for collectors value.

Hi Bryan, I'm sorry once again the coin has the coat of arms not palm trees. Only $155.00 thats melt value isn't it? What would collectors value be? Only 2,500 ever made. Ty Coin Hog

yes that is melt value, I am not sure what it is worth as a collectable, sorry for the confusion. When I hear a bullion coin the first thing I think of is how much its worth in melt value. I do not know anything about this series or know how much they are collected by collectors to say how much it is worth to a collector

CoinHog: Your coin would probably have only a slight premium over bullion in the collectors market unless, you find the best market for that particular coin. I don't see it as being a "hot" Commens however. You could do an on-line search or perhaps e-bay. Even though it has a $10 denomination on it...it is still basically a Commemorative. Does that make sense to you? Hope so. Sometimes I'm clear as mud! Oh and more than likely it was made for a specific golf tournament or something similar.

I saw that too. I only sent that as an example of what he might have. There have been several golf tournaments in South Africa and Hole-In-One does make souvenirs (so to speak). I believe there was a Masters in SF in 1994 but, I'm not positive. That's probably the reason for the low mintage and so forth. I'm not finding any collectors sites or information yet that could be helpful. I believe that he'll just have to stick with the bullion price and some sort of premium for now. What ya think?

When you sell a coin like this you have to be very carefull Because recognition is low If you use a platform like ebay and you do not have two intrested bidders you are going to be disappointed unless you use a high starting price or reserve price I saw a lot of good coins go for 10-20% below melt because nobody was intrested and you still have to go trough money transfer and pay postal charges and take the risk of problems etc eg This half ounce coin went for 40% of melt because of bad picture bad description and non recognition and it has a COA http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA:IT&rd=1
