Assuming this coin has an abundance of lustre I'd say you have a very nice coin there. MS64 with a small O reverse. Nicely struck Morgan. nlp

Looks pretty god. I don't see an abundance of bag marks. I'd go w/ MS64.

I'd change the mount. It looks like it's been exposed to some moisture. "Ounce of prevention" thing...

(It's not like it's going to rust but water helps nothing when it comes to preservation!)

thanks guys.... the water damage in that mount has to be over 20 yrs. old... its my dads collection (but I'm the one with interest in it), so i'll see what I can do in the coming days to give the coin what it deserves

next question.... do I get it graded... I'm looking at my RedBook and while I know it inflates what its worth, the difference between from and MS- 63 is 4x higher than MS-60 and the same goes for MS-64 to MS-63.... advice?

I would submit it for grading. In 63 it's a $300 coin.

should I be concerned at all that whoever owned the coin 30 yrs ago wrote that it was UNC 60.... should I consider it the untrained eye looking at it or that something isn't showing up on the scan?

ohhhh no friend, this is no where near a 60. 64+ IMO. Exceptional strike for New Orleans with really minimal marks.

Great coin buddy, have that one slabbed if you plan on selling it. Otherwise just enjoy your coin.

well, I took it to the shop I thought about submitting it to PCGS through, and he suggested that it wasnt worth it to grade the coin... I think he said 'id get 2 or 3 points out of it' (dont know what that means) and that the face had too much chatter, paired with the mark on the date would mean it wasnt going to grade high... and thus its probably only worth about 80-110..... maybe the scan isn't showing something? maybe he was off? (i mean surely he would want me to submit it through them wouldn't they)... I'm going to find a second opinion somewhere though

Get a second opinion. Dealers don't make much on submissions and maybe he didn't want to bother with it. Your coin looks like an easy 63 and should be given a chance.

It is easily a 63, more likely a 64 and I would have it graded. If you have it graded let us know how it does
