i have read opinions about the value, or importance, (or lack thereof), of the modern (2000's) doubled columns. as I search through the coins, I DO keep the doubled column coins I find. I also mark and save the one that I can identify, that are listed. I keep them in a folded and stapled 2x2 post-it note. they seem convenient, and inexpensive, and have plenty of area to write on. it seems as though some of them, even though they are not listed, are at least as impressive as some of the older DD, for instance some of the doubled eyelids. is it just me or do others identify and save these. thanks.

I keep the ones that I consider more major, around 1/2 the height of the statue or so. Much smaller than that they go back, unless it has some sort of other doubling, such as a doubled knee or feet. I try to identify the ones I can, but I have quite a few to still go thru. Just based on the amount I find, I don't think they will ever be worth very much.

I keep all of them. The ones that are nicer I stick in a flip for later addition tot he die system. The more minor ones I keep in tubes. Although I am not going to go through listing all the minor ones, I know the Wexler files does list them - so I figure somebody some day might want them.

I keep them all unless the "bar" on the column is very small, I keep one of the small bars for that date but then toss back any more I may find. I have a lot of them, a few hundred total. When I have enough to fill a roll I wrap it in a paper wrapper and the better ones go in to a 2x2 cardboard stapled holder. Until I have enough to put in a roll I put them in an envelope I make out of a bank roll paper wrapper, the white ones. There is plenty of room to write on it too.True they are not worth much but still fun to find them roll searching.

For the record, I don't ever use the cardboard staple holders for anything. I just go ahead and spend the extra to get mylar flips...for a number of reasons, but the most important being:

1. they are completely reusable.
2. no staples to damage the coins.
3. no staple rust to damage the coins.
4. you can put whatever you want on the insert, and you have 2x2 inches to write it.
5. you can use whatever color paper you want for effect (or for other reasons).

The cardboard holders are about 2.5 cents each in bulk. Mylar (non-PVC) flips are about 4.5 cents each in bulk. I ALWAYS just spend the extra cash and do it right the first time. All the hogwash about flips scratching coins is just that...hogwash.
