What will that do to the value of the coins and bills already in existence? Will they increase in value I just got an idea! I'm going to start hoarding all the old coins I can along with all the old bills!

Wait, I'm already doing that.

In my opinion possibly never. I know it may seem a bit useless, they weigh you down, take up a whole cupholder in your car, pile up in an old boot in your bedroom closet, etc..., take a second to ponder this. A penny has an intended life of 30 plus years, and is spent who knows how many times during its life, giving it a value of far greater than face especially to the people at the mint.

I think the days are numbered for the one cent coin, at least in Canada. The idea of getting rid of the penny seems to be coming up in the news more and more these days.

I wrote an article to the Editor of Canadian Coin News in 1997. I basically said that they should take the penny out of circulation but keep it in sets. It will save the government in the long run but still keep our history of the deciaml coins in Canada. It would be llke what we have for the half dollar coin. Thats just my opinion.

That's basically what The Netherlands and Finland are doing with their 1 Cent and 2 Cents Euro coins.
It works.

Gone by 2012. I love my cents, but they are useless. Some people actually
throw them on the ground, or in the garbage. We don't need anything smaller than
25c in reality.

I honestly believe that there are enough pennies for everyone and they should be worth more in the marketplace.
