Hi all.Would anyone know the origin of this large coin/medal? It is 3 inches in diameter and appears to be Bronze or Brass.A copy of a Double Eagle? It is listed on ebay at the moment.Hope this covers the copyright laws

It would help if you could show the reverse and/or give the lot # for this medal. An off-the-cuff guess, with little to go on, is that this is a souvenir medal that MAY have been sold at the 1907 Jamestown Expo; this guess, given it's date and apparently larger size.

I have a feeling you will see COPY stamped into the reverse someplace. I have had and still have a couple large paperweights like that around. I had a Eisenhower dollar, a 1909 S VDB, a 1877 Indian, a Buffalo nickel a 1916 D dime and probably others.
I still have a 1985 P nickel for sure. They usually get around $5.00 plus shipping.

LATE EDIT:

Here is a bunch of them

The $20 Saint looks like an early, cast medal; this, in comparison to most of those cited by wheezydog on ebay. Interestingly, there's another early-appearing medal, a Lincoln Cent. Both that one and the $20 seem to have above average interest for bidders. These may be paperweight medals that were sold at early fairs, expos and tourist spots. While I'm not familiar with these types, I have seen a similar one from the 1915 Pan-Pac Expo. The current, $39 bid suggests it's an early item of interest to some segment of exonumists. There may be a reference book on these by Stephen Alpert. Often, these large medals are marked by the maker, but I see no such signature hereon.

Regarding the "Looks like they are not rare then" observation ... the term "rare" is a relative one. Apparently, at this point in time, someone thinks that this $20 coin medal is worth 13 times the price of similar items. In my fifty years of collecting tokens and medals, I've not before seen this $20 medal. In terms of availability, I'm thus inclined to think it's relatively "rare" them. That said, it's not an item that I'd bid on ... not my cup-o-tea.

I do have a St. Louis "Lucky Nickel" I think I bought right here from somebody that is large an old. I don't know if I have a picture of it though.
It looks like this on one side though with the buffalo. I found one like it with Pikes Peak.

The Pike's Peak medal is a neat design. It's far more detailed than the others and looks better to me than most circulating coins, nowadays. My guess on this lucky nickel is 1915-20 or so. Never before seen this one, but I have seen a few other "lucky nickels." What's the connection with St. Louis? Anything stamped around the edge?

Thanks ,ExoGuy! Your comments are very astute ,I think."Rarity" is a relative term. This medal has opened up a whole new can of worms for me.I am attracted by the deep strike, however.I will have to do some more homework before I decide to jump in to this type of item.
Could be my cuppa ..oneday...
