I've haven't read that the German ones differed from the Canadian ones in weight (officially 7.3 grams), and I doubt they would be because of the nightmare launch that would have meant to the vending industry. They don't release test tokens for no reason. What I have read is that a slight difference between the look of the finish on two planchets, which apparently is very difficult to determine below an MS-63 state. Report this Post to the Staff
uncle al Valued Member Canada 311 Posts	Posted 12/09/2010 7:56 pm I just received a very sensitive scale for measuring coins. I got weights of from 7.23 to 7.41 grams. These were all 1996 twoonies. I also weighed other years of twoonies and they were in this range. Anyway, somehow a way will come up. Report this Post to the Staff

The specificatios are supposed to be the same.The 2 dollar coin struck from a Canadian planchet (315,483,000) has a shiny, polished finish. The 2 dollar coin struck from the German planchet (60,000,000) has a dull, matte-like finish. Identification of the 2 varieties is difficult at best for uncirculated coins and almost impossible for circulated coins. Report this Post to the Staff
