What's so special about the 1950d? Why was it hoarded?

Quote: I think a circulated 50-D is almost like finding a circulated 1838 No Cents. Quite the accomplishment. I have a circulated one, but it was part of my granddad's collection. I've been nickel searching for five years and never found one. I recently finished searching about 30 rolls that I purchased over a period of 8 months, four rolls at a time. 2 1950 D's! I was floored! Strange that there were 15 other 1950 coins too. May have been a collection that was turned into the bank.

of your 10 most difficult list, I have already found 2. I am missing 8 of your list. I am also missing the 51S (not on your list)

Just pulled 43S so I'm down to 4 holes. Whoopie! I think that was the last easy one though (need 38D, 39D, 44S and 50D now).

I've gone through 14+ boxes and am still missing 13. I do have three of your hardest ten: 38-S,45-D, and 42-S. I haven't found a Hennings but have found a curved clip and a straight clip. Also found just one buffalo. And found a 41-large and small S.

From my experience, and I'm sure others can attest, once you get down to your last 5 or so coins things really start slowing down. I have 4 to go. With luck I might be able to wrap this up in the next 6months.... but then again these are the 4 coins I have not found in a little over the past year of searching. I'm 78 boxes deep so far, soon to be 79 in the next few hours.....

Yeah, I thought I'd be done this year after starting in Nov '09. I'll be lucky if I find those last 4 by Nov '11!

RollHunter, we're pretty much down to the same ones. For me: 38, 39, 43, 50, all D.

Found a 52-D, a 70-S, and a 43-P today out of 2 rolls I picked up, I had already pulled the 70 and the 52 and thought those would be the best finds, so I was pretty excited when I found the 43.
