Soooooo ..... I know there are several folks out there who are roll-searching Jefferson nickels with the same goal I have ...... collect a complete 1938-2010 circulation strike set from bank rolls. Wondering how you are doing ...... what coins you still need to find ..... how many coins (rolls, boxes) you have gone through? Consider this the buddy support-system thread for the under-appreciated Jefferson roll searcher. I seem to recall that Yinzi50, CND and DylansDad have reported success since I have been hanging out here. Perhaps I have missed some completed roll sets? Good for those who have accomplished this goal. Soooo ... for me ..... I have passed through 225,200 coins searched (5630 rolls) and still need two coins to complete my set ...... 1938-S and 1943-D. Tell us about your search status! David

A nicer 50-D and a Henning. I go through a box a day and rollwise, I've got maybe 90%. I dont ever see me quitting this discipline.

Wow! I've searched about 100 rolls of jeffs in my lifetime and I've found both a 38S and 43D. Unfortunately there are a few dozen others I havent found :P

I've gone through just over 100,000 nickels and I still need to find the 43d and 50d to finish the set.

I think a circulated 50-D is almost like finding a circulated 1838 No Cents. Quite the accomplishment. I have a circulated one, but it was part of my granddad's collection.

At it over a year and have searched 156,520 nicks so far. 4 Remaining: 38D, 39D, 43D and....yep 1950D. Noteworthy finds: 1 1883 Liberty nickel...actually love token, the reverse has been etched, 1910 German Pfennig (either 5, 10, or 50 I'll have to check), 20+ Buffalo nickels, 66 War Nickels, 60 canadian nickels, and another half roll of other foreign coins.

i started my quest in early august. I've been through 8 boxes. (time available and economics keep me from searching more/faster) I have 9 remaining. 1938D & S, 1939D, 42S,43D, 44D, 45D, 50D and 51S). I have found 6 buffalos, in my 8 boxes. so far, a fun endeavor.

I was doing it last year, got down to about eight I didn't have, went to a coin show and couldn't resist buying them.

I am coming up on 4 years of roll searching nickels and average 1.25 boxes a week and have been stuck at needing 2 for about 8 months now. I still need the 38S and 43D. I have been concentrating on cents right now(still doing some nickels but not as many)because my last 3 boxes of nickels were awful. Anything pre-60 were in awful condition and there were too few to even mention.

I've searched roughly 200 rolls, and have found a complete set minus 50-D, Hennings, and all but 2 wars.

Great fun ...... Thanks for the replies and sharing where you are on this quest. I recognize as 'tough' the dates missing in all the replies ...... and encourage the dedicated nickel searchers out there to take some comfort in knowing it is not bad luck but just the nature of the quest that is holding you back. Some of you remember my legacy post on circulation obsolescence and the "Top-10" toughest Jefferson to find today. You can read it here: https://goccf.com/t/58454Soooo ... at 225,000 coins searched ...... here is the Current Top-10 Toughest Jefferson to Find in Rolls:1943-D @ 166,600 1944-S @ 118,009 1939-D @ 79,797 1944-D @ 78,916 1942-S @ 77,477 1950-D @ 72,443 1945-D @ 68,521 1938-S @ 68,119 1938-D @ 51,720 1942-P (Silver) @ 44,024 I am overdue to complete the set. Keep us posted as you find the coins you need in this wonderful 5 cents a coin quest. David

looks like I have a little ways to go until I find the 1943d and as for the 1950d I'll have to rely on pure luck because it was hoarded. I'm not giving up! Interesting to see the 1944s up there, I've found at least three of those and three 1939d but only one 1950p.

Ive found the 1883 with cents and the 1950 proof which has a mintage of less than 52,000, but none the less after 5 years of searching I'm still missing the 1938d, 1939d, 1943d, 1944d, and the 1950d. WHAAAA!
The only additions I've had to my jeff set this year so far were the 1938s, 2009d, 2010p, 2010d. -XoG
