Is it just me, or do you feel the mint is asking too much for the ATB Quarter sets. If you do the math, the UNC, clad quarter set will set you back (with shipping) somewhere around $2.69 apiece for the 10 coin set. The clad, proof set will run you almost $4.00 a coin (once again with shipping).

Looking at the 2011 RedBook (I know it's not the best price guide) the UNCs are running only about $.75 and the proofs over 4 bucks. Now I expect that in the after market, but not from the mint.

Should we start a grass roots campaign to lower clad prices at the mint?

I agree that the mint dose seem to be excessive on clad and silver issues I guess that the bottom line is the bottom line even at the mint!

Me too. I'm not getting this stuff from the mint. I'll go to a coin show & let a dealer make some profit first.

Whatever the market will bare. If they weren't selling them they would lower the price. If the sell a lot this year, guess what?

I did a short 3 week tour in Panama. I arrived early in the project and $1 would take you anywhere in a taxi. When I got out of the woods it had risen to $4 because people were paying it. I told the driver "no no no, one dollar" and he took it.

I think those that are paying the mint prices are in for a rude awakening.

I don't usually go to the Mint's site but I was poking around there today. I have to agree they prices are high. But I think timsumrall is correct and econonomics 101 wins out, supply and demand. If you think it is too high don't buy it. I am sure you can pick it up later for less.

I had agreed months ago, that these three "short sets" would be great and custom ready for album collectors.
But, now I see the prices and re-evaluate........that's just too high of a price to be paying all the way through this ATB program.
I can't/won't do it either !

But even the "regular" Proof & Mint sets have pricing that keeps growing each year......yet the future value typically DOESN'T.
I'll just keep plugging away the way I always have, for now anyway.....
