I don't see why it wouldn't work either, its just the sides to diffuse the lights that will make the photo's look good but you can make something to diffuse the light yourself for allot less. I have seen people use a sheet of printer paper to do the same thing

Why it would not work? it can work..BUT it will not be easy. IMO a coin should be photographed at 90 degrees from the top...or if you sue this tent, straight at the same level to the lens. BIG question here is: how will you set up the coin. If is is from the top, it can lay flat.... I looked at tents and devices to hold coins... some guys do it... but it is better you use a tripod or an old enlarger to mount your camera and take images from top... cheaper too and more flexible.... I have one, one thing is the lights aren't very bright. I bought it last year, for coin pics, I never use it.

I have one too. Tried it once and found that using the method I use now, kitchen table with kitchen light on black cotton glove, works better. It does work nice on larger items.

Yeah...I bought a similar setup once too. Diffusion is good for some subjects, but I've never needed it for coins. FYI, those lights look exactly like my setup, which quickly get so hot as to be actually hazardous. One light burned out quickly too. Now, all I need is one halogen reading light and a camera with a good macro capability. This was taken using one light and a Canon SD790IS:

I have a light tent like that. Its really good for shooting table top stuff like a cell phone or a tape recorder. It is a waste for coins. With a coin you only need to light a small area. You can get the effect of white reflection with a piece of foam core.
The lights that come with that set are cheap. Your better off buying little lights and spiral photo-rated CFLs at your local hardware store.
