A bit of good info here: http://photography.bhinsights.com/c...icle_PTMacro

This is where Santa purchased my Canon Macro lens a couple years ago, but that's the only affiliation I have with them . They do have some good photography articles.

gee thanks now I really have no idea of which one I want! good article, better links at the end of the article.

After fooling around for the last few months, I am ready to now spend the $$ on the important part of the camera, the lens. I am struggling with length. I wish I could try all 3 before I buy. I am stuck between 180mm Tamron/150mm Sigma/100mm Canon I am shooting with coin dedicated Canon 40d and use their utilities for Live view capture on my computer monitor.

What I wonder is how much the frame is filled at maximum zoom with each of the 3 lens? Either I don't know how to read the specifications or .. that info isn't relevent? I saw somewhere a grain of rice will fill the frame.. which lens was that? aaaargh!

Good article and overview of specs for various lenses.
I can recommend BH too--I've bought a lot of gear from them.
For used gear, I'll put in a good word for KEH Camera brokers.
