A guy I know has a couple of notes he wants to sell. The $2 Dollar note was interesting with the cancelled stamp, like a first day cover. It appeared pristine to my untrained eye. At least, there were no folds or creases. The other I threw in the pic in case something jumped out at you guys. The silver notes obviously caught my attention and then the star. Unfortunately, it had been folded. I hope you guys tell me that's it cool anyway. The one on the bottom also appeared pristine. What's a fair offer?

I'm not to knowledgeable on values, so I can't comment on that. However, I'd say go for it, if the price is right.
Silver certs are always cool to have, even if they don't hold much value over face. As are $2's: I have a bunch of $2's hanging around, just because I like them.

So, the cancelled stamp and star notes aren't worth anything?

the cancelled stamp came from the Post office on the first day of issue in 1976 as a bicentennial celebration. I don't know what the value is but I have seen some on ebay so you may want to check completed auctions to see what they are selling for. The silver certificates are cool to have, the star note would be worth more than the regular SC but again I would check with completed auctions for a price range on a SC star of that year. The folded $2 is nothing special and to be honest is worth 2 bucks unless you just have to have it and then its up to you what its worth to you. You can get $2 notes in that condition from the bank for face value if they have any in, I get them all the time for tooth fairy gifts for my daughter

Agree with Bryan...I always check completed listings on ebay to get a ballpark figure

The 2 dollar note from '76 is a nice note to keep, value is only what someone is willing to spend for such a note, but typically, that would sell for around $4 to $6 dollars in uncirculated condition. The other 2 dollar note, I agree with Bryan1315, trade for a new note at the bank for a tooth fairy gift or for your self if you want. The silver certs., those are a common issue and unless they are in uncirculated condition, even with a star they wouldn't bring much of a premium. You could hang on to them or, you could try your luck on ebay and see if you can get a few bucks for them? Either way, it's still money. Good luck

I would have to say $8 tops, and that is pushing it a little. The $2 with the stamp in my opinion is defaced unless it comes with the certificate. I am going 2x face on the silver certs.

I have sold those $2.00 bills with cancelled bicentennial stamps. If you get it for under $8.00 I would say you did OK. The star note is probably a $6.00 and the other a $4.00. Now me, I wouldn't pay $15.00 for them. I would rather spend twice that much on a funny back 1928 $1.00 bill if I were chasing small size currency or a nice Hawaii note. These are just too common.

MaineMan the wife bought one at auction about a year ago for $5. But my bad, it does not have a certificate, it is matted in a frame that says "First Day of Issue" on the matting. Looks nice though. I should get a pic and post it for you guys this weekend. I still say it is defaced though.

Quote: I still say it is defaced though I have to agree. I have never liked those. To me it's like one of those colorized notes where someone paints in the images... except worse than that even.

Thanks for clearing that up Tim...guess I would have had to drag somebody out of retirement to complain...and then have egg on my face. Nickelman, if I ever find one that has a postage stamp sized cut out, I'll know who did it

Yup, these are pretty common. I went to the bank today, to get some $2's, and got these three (two are in sequence) plus two others that were stamped. They are in great shape, so I think I'll hang onto them.
