I never go on ebay except to verify the claims from some members of this community.

Anyhoo, is this token real? Are people messing with at such a high rate that tokens are needed? I know this is a family forum, but do these things circulate in Nevada? What's the deal with this token?

No, that would be a cheap imitation. Notice the location- Denver- prostitution is most definitely not legal there. Real brothel tokens do exist with most dating from the 1800s and very early 1900s. They are also usually rather crude in design with punched lettering.

From what I read, these tokens were more prevalent in the silver-mining areas of Colorado in the mid-late 19th C--such as Leadville, Durango, Aspen.

The only real US brothel tokens are tokens good for a drink in the brothels bar. They look like any other typical saloon token and the only way to know that they are "brothel" tokens is to know the history of the bar. There are no US tokens good for services from the ladies. (There are some for some European brothels) There are a lot of fantasy brothel tokens that match the description given by biokemist.

They still make replicas for Nevada and California. I doubt anyone could tell the difference between the replica and the real McCoy these days.

May be if you analysed the metal. To me, they're just worth the effort. Although, there are some that specialize in this type of token and jump at the chance to own them.

I'd tell you a story about meeting two elderly ladies in Junction City, KS involving this, but you would never believe their stories. Lets just say the Wild West was indeed wild.

Someone old guy told me he went to some playboy hotel they used " playboy money " at the playboy clubs back in the 60's 70's
it looked like money but had models faces on it, along with coins, tokens , vip cards, charge cards
all used for the casinos, reasturants and " massage " rooms. You could buy " 1 on 1 " time with the bunnies.
Not to get into the details but he told me he had " the best time of his life "

They would not take reg money you had to exchange you money for playboy money to be able to do/buy stuff.
prob a way of getting you to spend more money then you intended, or if you left with a playboy 20$bill in your pocket as a soviener theyjust made money knowing it cost you 20$ but prob cost them 10cents to print it up.
