Like many clubs, we would auction stuff members would put up.
There were two retired gents whose collections were pretty much complete, but they created their own auction fun.
A kid would put up some item of little value, like a roll of common wheat cents. Next thing you know, these two codgers would have it over ten bucks, upping it by quarters. Neither one wanted it; the object was to get it to the maximum price the other guy would bid, and stick him with it.
The winner/loser would pay for the item, but not pick it up, and a kid got encouraged to come to meetings.
