According to the RCM's web-site:

1988 to 2002
Composition: 91.5% nickel, 8.5% bronze plating
Weight (g): 7
Diameter (mm): 26.5
Thickness (mm): 1.75

All these years I thought they were a nickel bronze alloy.But redlock is right,according to the RCM site they're plated.It's amazing how a little misinformation can stick with you for a very long time.

There are talks of changing the loonie and twoonie for next year, however, I hope that is not the case. Nothing is more deceitful than using the same design for a different coin.
