Surely, you're not going to denigrate the holy?

everyone can do with their property whatever they want. the coin is not destroyed, is still legal tender and who knows.....? maybe it is a mint error (done by someone at the mint lolololol >?)

That's a shame. Still a great coin. I'd buy it, but not at that price.

i mean its one the the most valuable coins your ever have in your collection! personally I think that just seeing one is great! Poeple are stupid sometime! I imagine the guy in 1948 getting a dollar at bank and came home with the great idee of drilling a hole in is dollar. now he look back and cries..

I also saw this on E-bay and shed a few tears. Here's a coin missing from most collections and someone has the audacity to destroy one! Let's all use our Karma and send itching fleas onto the persons underwear who did this. Glenn

I call this a space filler, I wouldnt hesitate to add this coin to my collection until a better copy came along. But I am with you all, its a crying shame that someone would do this it was obviously a non collector in my opinion.

This coin actually has nice detail...
Maybe a VF-25? (Because of the hole)
What do you think?

Harsh :( Someone wanted to wear their Lucky Dollar maybe? Probably drilled long before it became so known as a rare dollar? At least with proper bezel setting coins in rings or pendants, the edges aren't badly destroyed by careful jewelers, unlike a hole drilled.
I'm with whoever said something like with the hole or no hole, they're scarce and hard to get, a 1948 is a 1948 at least. It would still have value above its silver content wouldn't it because of its scarcity and value?

It's a shame. As far as being "rare" though, there are lots of Victorian coins that are much more scarce at a fraction of the price. I know it's an icon in Canadian coins, but realistically it's one of the most overrated dates too.

Yeah! Unleash the fleas! Then we'll hope it's not someone's mom that thought they were doing the right thing!
Dang shame about the coin, but who knows how it happened. Somewhere along the line someone had it who cares just a smidgen less about it than we do. You've met 'em.
