I'm sure we all have them. Notes that aren't in the best shape, but we hang onto them, until a better one comes along.

Well, the latest one for me is this series 1953C USN rag:

Place-Holders

I'm currently trying to complete a collection of all series of small size $2's, and didn't have a '53C yet. It's in terrible shape, though. As soon as a better one comes along, this one will be added to my tip/spender pile, redeposited, etc.

So, does anybody else have a note that's in less than ideal condition? Where do you folks draw the line? As in, "I don't care how much I want an example of that particular note. This one is just to beat up for my liking."

Most of mine are not in that good of shape jlg, and that is no exaggeration, (but then I don't keep things that can be found in circulation either)......To me, rarity is the deciding factor, not condition. Many of the scarcer notes do not exist in UNC grades, so upgrading is not a realistic goal.

It's all relative.
For you, that's a place holder.
For me, it's a mid-grade bill. But I'm not exactly a high-roller when it comes to coins; any example is acceptable for my collection.

In regards to this notes condition, it actually looks much better in the picture, than it does in person. I have certainly seen notes in worse condition, though.

This one is fine for now, and I really can't complain for face. I got it, as well as many other red seal's, in a bundle of notes, from the bank. People are still turning them in!

It occurs to me that in order to get the 1928 series notes for my $2 bill project, I may have to hit the 'bay. As far as USN's, banks seem to mainly have the '53, and '63 series.

Thanks for the responses.

jlg1130, I am also working on a US Small FRN 2 dollar sereis and district set. I still need from the 1928 sereies the following notes the 1928 plain, 1928 A, and the 1928 B. I have all the notes from 1953 to 1976. I have the notes that were put out in circulation for 1995 and 2003. I also have the colloctors district sets for 2008 and 2009.
