I was looking at this dime which seems to be in pretty good shape. There is a mark on the reverse on the rim at about 2 oclock. The rim before the mark looks to be distorted as if it was caused while striking.. There is no high spot on the other side of the coin.Is it possible that it was hit there when it was extracted or ejected from the die? Any thoughts on this would be great.

Post-Mint, probably. If I recall correctly, the extraction technique involves pushing the coin from the side, and not "grabbing" it with anything mechanical, so it's not possible for the press to impose such a mark.

A minor distraction from a wonderful little coin.

I concur, looks like PMD but still a nice coin.

The strike on this coin has a mushy look to me - especially the reverse. Not to jump to conclusions, but I would do a weight test on it - it has a cast look to it to be honest. Could just be the photo or the strike though.

Maybe the ding is a result of a striking issue or could be PMD as others have said.

I want to call it a strike through myself. But the weakness in the center of this coin does not make me feel warm and fuzzy.

When I look at the obverse, in the exact area opposite the region of interest on the reverse, I see a small bump. A struck through wouldn't do that, but pressure from a hit to the back to the coin would.

Thanks folks.robbudo. There isn't a high spot or a bump on the flip side.

Just so you know where I'm looking: I'm looking at that tiny lighter spot on the obverse. I've seen that before on other coins that had damage on the reverse, and it was ever-so-slightly raised.

Robbudo has it right, there is a bulge right where he indicates and it is from the hit on the reverse.
