Does anyone know if there is such thing as an Elizabeth 1st sixpence for 1561 which has no mint mark?

No, but that doesn't mean that there is no such thing.....I am sure that you are aware that the milled coin's mm was the star, while the various hammered coins used mm of portcullis or pheon....Do you have a scan or photo?

According to the Coincraft Catalogue

Quote:
... all [QE1's] sixpences have mintmarks at the beginning of the obverse and reverse legend ...

That has a written in stone sound to it....

Maybe Coincraft should have said "all known [QE1's] sixpences have mintmarks at the beginning of the obverse and reverse legend" ?

Nearly anything is possible....(I'd sure like to see some pictures).
