The US held one this year, so did Russia. Any other countries counted their citizens recently? I'm not aware of any commemoration of the event here in the US (the mints are busy doing inventory of dead presidents ) Russia did issue 10 rouble coin featuring the National Census. Part of the legend says, "Everyone is important to Russia".

The UK are due to do it early next year but I dont think we have ever had a coin to commemorate it! Last time it was done (2001) to poke a bit of fun at the religion question 400,000 people listed their religious beliefs as 'Jedi', as in Star Wars. It backfired a bit though as it became the 4th most popular religion in England and Wales surpassing Sikhism, Judaism, and Buddhism meaning the Government had to recognise it! For the record Brighton has the most 'Jedi Knights' in the UK with almost 3% of their population .

I wouldn't hesitate to convert to Jedi-ism Quote: ... but I dont think we have ever had a coin to commemorate it! I believe this coin was the first for Russia.

Quote: Any other countries counted their citizens recently? The Wikipedia article lists how and when the census is conducted in various countries around the world. Australia has one every five years, in years ending in either 6 or 1, so we are due for one next year as well. We haven't made a commemorative coin about it yet, but given the plethora of commemoratives the Mint has been putting out in recent years, a Census-themed coin for next year wouldn't surprise me.

I really haven't heard to much about the results of our own Census. I think our government gave up since our population grows at the borders by the millions daily. One frightening thought though. Last I heard we were way over 300,000,000 people. Now look in the Red Book for how many coins were minted with less than 10 million. Less than 1 million. AHHHHHH

Not a problem since less than 1% of that population are even mild interest collecors. Less than .5% are serious collecors. Ignore the lunacy of the mints 150 million people collecting claim. (Sorry for the edit but for some reason yesterday my computer suddenly would not let me do anything with this thread. Couldn't add to it or edit it. Even tried closing the browser and then coming back.)

Couple of years ago they adopted an incentive : a lump sum payment of 250,000 rubles (about US$9,000) for the second child. Now there are talks about extending it to 340,000 rub. for the third, and a free plot of land for the fourth child.
