Hey there! I found this weird looking Indian cent in my collection today. It really looks a bit like gold.. So I'm wondering if anyone know what could have happened to it? Help please! Some sort of cleaning? I can take more/better pictures if you wish! Thanks for any help!

By looking at this picture I would say yes. Interesting also how the date is almost perfect and the rest seems to have spent time with acne. Maybe a high acidic cleaning solution?

It could have been buried for a very long time and found with a metal detector. The metal looks like it could have mixed with the chemicals in the soil thus bring out the golden highlights. Just a guess though.

Wow looks like someone pulled that thing out of the the first A-Bomb test site and then soaked it in ammonia for 40 years :)

that is Earth corrosion, basically the coin became an anode in the ground.

Alright. Makes it quite worthless right? Unless some weird-collector wants it :)

Well if it's worth nothing, I'll give you a penny for it. There is an empty spot for 1880 in my collection!

If you happen to buy some of my other coins, I'd ship it along for free ;)

Might be! How much would you give for a worthless coin? ;)

I suspect it was painted or varnished at one point, then buried. That might account for the color and varying degrees of porosity.

I thought about that too...coin was most likely heavily corroded, at which point it was cleaned, maybe even so the holder could tell what it was.
