Hi,

I'm looking for some help on ways to store Canadian coins.

I'm a new collector who has a lot of coins sitting in a tin box. (most of them are not in in a condition that are worth much) I'm looking for a cost effective way to protect them from further wear but also have easy access to at all times. Ideally I was thinking of plastic capsules but they seem expensive considering most of my coins are only worth face value.

I'm leaning toward getting a bunch of 2X2's and putting those in plastic 2X2 sleeves in a binder. This website seems like they have the right selection for a reasonable price:

2X2's: http://www.colonialacres.com/cardbo...rs_2x2.shtml

Binder pages for said 2X2's: http://www.colonialacres.com/binderpages.shtml

So am I on the right track here? Is this a good way to store/catalogue them? Is this website overcharging me for the stuff I need to buy?

Please keep in mind I am in Canada and I collect Canadian coins.

If anyone thinks there is a better method of doing this I'm all ears.

Thanks in advance for all your advice!

Edit: I should add that as I begin to build my collection I will probably begin finding coins of higher value than what I have now and I need something that will allow me to protect those coins while storing them next to their younger/older brothers and sisters.

I think you are on the right track. It is always a safe and economical choice to use 2x2's, vinyl pages, and a binder. They make organizing and reorganizing easy.

You are on the right track. I've never dealt with that place, but prices seem pretty good. Just be careful about shipping costs.

I think 2x2s in 20 pocket pages are an excellent choice. Also check on ebay.
That website looks like its got decent prices on 2x2s. I rarely buy 2x2s because when I do, I buy a lot of them (10,000). That gives me a decent price break on them and more importantly, I don't ever run out (I really hate it when that happens). I've got thousands of coins stored this way and I couldn't afford to do it any other way. Plus it is very easy to pull out a binder and search through them.

Note that there are two different weights of 20 pocket pages. There is a light weight that can cost about $.10-$.20 each. There is also a heavy weight that can cost $.80-$1.00 each. The light weight is good for dimes, cents, nickles. The heavy weight is a must for halves or dollars. Quarters can go either way. Putting dimes in the heavy page is a waste of money. Putting dollars in the light weight page is a mess because they are so heavy they hang funny and tear the pages.
