I am fairly new to collection coins (about 5 years). I use the KMxxx
system to catalog my coins. I have found several web sites that work very well for me but there is a problem when it comes to current year (ie 2010 as an example) KM designations. My questions:

What does KM stand for?
Is there some organization that assigns KM numbers?
How can I access this organization (Internet or email)?

Thanks for the help

I know for certain that KM stands for Krause and Mishler. Other than that, I am lost. I think it is a cataloging device, numerical system or something. Not much help.

Krause (Chester L.) and Mischler (Clifford) put out the Standard Catalog of World Coins (I think it starts at 1601 and goes one book per century), and the KM numbers are the numbers each coin is cataloged under for each country.

You can go to https://www.numismaster.com (Krause Publishers website for the catalog) and if they've entered it, you should be able to find the new KM number there.

Just an example of a listing.. click "Find My Coin" at the top and enter the Country and anything else like the year, and search. The KM's are designated per coin type. Sometimes the different types are obvious such as in this Half Cent and cent, but other times varieties of a given type and year are given a different one to tell them apart (sometimes even with a decimal number, like KM 33.1 or 33.2).

Thanks for the web site. From what I can gather the 2010 Taiwan 10 Yuan coin has not been assigned a KM number yet.
