Here's an interesting effect, I accidentally made Cu-Ni coin into a gold one. Both pictures (of the same coin) were made in pretty much identical conditions with the same (artificial) lighting.

First pic was made close-up with Macro setting.

Then I tried again, and I pulled away to avoid the reflection of the camera in the coin's surface. Unexpectedly I got this color (I have not manipulated colors digitally on either image).

Alchemy-Is-Real!

Would anyone like to explain the physics (or whatever) of this phenomenon?

I failed to mention I photographed the coin through the plastic of the mint packaging.

Yes, it's a primitive aim-and-push-a-button camera.

The camera tries to set the white balance before the shot based on the ambient light. My Sony always gets it wrong unless I'm using natural light most shots come out yellow under incandescent or florescent light. there should be a white balance setting in the menu somewhere with different options..

I agree with the white balance theory also. I used to take pictures that looked similar before I figured out how to set the white balance on my camera

White balance is a key issue. Watch that color temperature!
